Berlin Day 3 - History Come Alive (Cold War)

This was taken on Day 2, at Checkpoint Charlie. It was the point of crossing between East and West Germany during the Cold War. Now, you just pay 2eur to take 4 pictures with fake guards.

We went to the East Side Gallery-  they got artists to paint the east side of the Berlin Wall.

I have to note that there were a couple of Singaporean-sounding names written on the wall as graffiti, and it was pretty annoying. I really dislike graffiti, even on normal streets and walls. So seeing graffiti here really annoyed me, especially the ones with the Singaporean names. Come on, this is art.

In fact, this painting was so badly damaged before that they had the original artist to restore it in 2009.

Created in 1990, the painting depicts Leonid Brezhnev and Erich Honecker in a fraternal embrace, reproducing a photograph that captured the moment in 1979 during the 30th anniversary celebration of the foundation of the German Democratic Republic.

The South Korean president was due to come a couple of days from when I had gone to Germany. I suppose that's why there was a small exhibition on North Korea when I was there.

So that was about what I had done in Berlin, along with Haribo and Ritter Sport shopping. Had to catch a morning flight back to Stockholm, so I slept over in an airport for the first time in my life. I think I was quite chill, because a couple of friends remarked that they wouldn't have slept if they were staying over in an airport alone. I slept for about 3 hours on top of my Haribo and Ritter Sport stash.

Oh yeah on my flight to Munich, I had checked in 0.5kg of luggage. On the trip back, I had checked in 10.5kg of luggage. I think I had gone slightly overboard with the candy and chocolates heh.

Yup I certainly did.

(Btw YAAM is some African club in Berlin)
